Один из двух основных (наряду с 1-антитрипсином antitrypsins) ингибиторов протеаз плазмы позвоночных животных, обладает очень широким спектром активности, ингибирующей бактериальные и эукариотические эндопептидазы; у челоовека 2-М., являющийся крупным (720 кД) тетрамером, вовлечен в патогенез ряда заболеваний легких и некоторых др. патологий.
